The oats, they'd poisoned me
And the shot, it changed me
And if I ran hard enough
I could run away

The smoke it filled me
And the sadness broke me
And I was probably wrong
About what I knew most of all

And she cried many times
And I dried her old eyes
And she told me of her aches
How the sickness lasted for days

And I believed her right away
But the courtesy was never the same
And there was so much pain
But this was the worst of all of the ways

And I feel it to this day
And it won't seem to go away
And I fear the aches are here to stay
They're here to stay

Her sickness, it was only a few days.
